Rules & Regulations

1. Our tournaments will follow a Single Elimination format. Some competitors when you lose a match you will be inserted into the Consolation Bracket to compete for 3rd place. The competitors that continue in the Winners Bracket who make it to the Championship Round will be competing for 1st and 2nd place.

 

If there are no other competitors registered in your division you may be placed in another division in order for you to participate. Team Points will not be awarded for divisions with 1 competitor. We reserve the right to either subdivide or combine divisions, weight classes, or age classes the day of the event depending on the turnout.

 

2. Each Competitor will be allowed to register in ONE DIVISION ONLY.

 

3. All competitors must weigh-in. There is NO weight allowance at weigh-ins.

 

4. Each competitor must submit an on-line registration form, sign the electronic waiver, and pay the entry fee.

 

5. If the match is tied at the end of regulation the referee will decide the winner based on advantage points. If advantage points are tied then decision will go to competitor with the first takedown.

6. All competitors must wear a Gi with a standard collar size and thickness.

 

7. Uniform Gi or No Gi -  For Gi - All competitors must wear a CLEAN and a SOLID colored Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu GI (Kimono), either ALL WHITE, ALL BLUE, or ALL BLACK in color. Women may also wear ALL PINK. No mixing of colors. Example; white pants and blue top or blue pants and white top, etc… will NOT be allowed. Competitors will compete with regulation GIs only. A regulation GI is four fingers cuff clearance and sleeves are to be no shorter than 4” from wrist between wrist and sleeve of GI.

For Non Gi - all competitors must wear shorts with no pockets and rashguard shirts or non Rash guard non loose t-shirts.

 

8. All male competitors are allowed to wear clothing underneath the GI such as T-Shirts, Rash Guard, Sweatpants, etc. Also, wrestling shoes are NOT allowed.

 

9. We will do our best to pair up Kids according to weight and age no more than 2 years apart. For example ages groups may be (6 & 7) (8 & 9) (10 & 11) (12 & 13) (14 & 15). We will do our best to not mix girl and boy competitors, but it may be necessary. Kids need to be registered according to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Belt rankings (White, Yellow, Orange, Green). Karate or Tae Kwon Do belt rankings may be the same color, but are not equivalent to the skill level as jiu-jitsu. Consult your Jiu-Jitsu instructor before registering your child to avoid your child being entered into the wrong division.

 

10. We reserve the right to refuse service.

 

11. We reserve the right to close the tournament registration at any time in order to benefit our event organization.

 

12. We reserve the right to change the date and/or location of the tournament.

 

13. All competitors are required to wear mouth protection.

Competitors: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place will receive medals and score team points

 

Team: The top 3 Adult Teams and top 3 Kid's Teams will be presented a team award.
Note: Teams are based upon the information provided on the registration forms. It is your responsibility to make

sure you correctly put your Team/School name on your registration form.

You may weigh in Saturday Morning - November 7th, 2015 at East Islip Middle School, Islip Terrace, N.Y. 

any time before your event.  Doors open at 7:30 - 9:30 am at the event.

All Divisions start at 10:30.

Team scoring guidelines:

1st place by submission - 5 points

1st place - 4 points

2nd place - 2 points

3rd place - 1 point

 

ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES:

Illegal Techniques for ALL AGES & ALL DIVISIONS NO Striking of any kind NO Slamming NO Biting, Hair pulling or Eye-Gouging NO fingers to the throat NO Small Joint Manipulation (Fingers, Toes, etc) NO Pressure points NO Knees or Elbows in the face NO Stalling or running from the fight NO Swearing or obscene gestures!

Illegal Techniques for KIDS up to 15 years old Illegal Techniques for ALL AGES & ALL DIVISIONS will apply plus the following:

NO Ezequiel Chokes

NO Attacks below the waist (i.e. NO Foot Locks, Heel Hooks, Knee Bars, Toe holds) NO Guillotine Chokes NO Neck Cranks NO Cervical Locks (i.e. crucifix) NO Pulling the head while in the Guard (Can Opener) NO Triangle while pulling the Head NO Wrist Locks NO Calf Locks NO Scissors Takedown NO Biceps Locks NO Omoplata (Shoulder Lock)

 

(The referee reserves the right to stop a choke if the neck or spine is compromised)

 

Illegal Techniques for ALL WHITE & BLUE BELTS (ages 16 and over)

Illegal Techniques for ALL AGES & ALL DIVISIONS will apply plus the following:

NO Knee Bars

NO Toe Hold ankle locks (Figure 4)

Only Straight Foot Locks are ALLOWED in Blue belt division. (can’t twist inward or wrap leg over) NO Wrist Locks NO Calf Locks NO Biceps Locks NO Scissors Takedown NO Heel Hooks or Twisting Bent Knee Locks of any kind NO Cervical Locks (i.e cruicifix) NO Pulling the head while in the Guard (Can Opener)
No leg attacks of any kind allowed in White Belt Division.

 

Illegal Techniques for ALL PURPLE BELTS

Illegal Techniques for ALL AGES & ALL DIVISIONS will apply plus the following:

Only Straight Foot Locks are ALLOWED (can’t twist inward or wrap leg over) NO Calf Locks NO Biceps Locks NO Scissors Takedown NO Heel Hooks or Twisting Bent Knee Locks of any kind NO Cervical Locks (i.e cruicifix)

Illegal Techniques for ALL BROWN & BLACK BELTS Illegal Techniques for ALL AGES & ALL DIVISIONS will apply plus the following:

NO Scissors Takedown

NO Biceps Locks

NO Cervical Locks (i.e cruicifix)

 

Illegal Techniques for Kids up to 15 years and younger

No Ezequiel chokes

No attacks below the waist (i.e. No foot locks, heel hooks, knee bars, toe holds), no neck crank, no cervical lock (i.e crucifix), No pulling the head while in the guard(can opener) No triangle while pulling the head, No wrist locks, No calf locks, no scissors takedown, no biceps locks.

Illegal Techniques for all white belts, blue belts, purple

White belts no leg locks below the waist

Blue and purple belts only straight ankle lock is allowed.

Brown Black belts

No scissor takedown

No biceps locks

No cervical locks

Straight ankle lock, toe hold, and straight knee bar are allowed

 

Penalties:

Stalling: Holding or running away from the fight, or holding both sleeves with a closed guard (more than 30 seconds.)

1st incident - warning

2nd incident - 2 points to your opponent

3rd incident - disqualification

 

Taking down your opponent and running away from the fight on the ground

1st incident - warning

2nd incident - 2 points to your opponent

3rd incident - disqualification

 

The following will result in immediate disqualification:

• Picking up your opponent while on the ground and slamming them

• Applying illegal techniques

• Unsportsmanlike conduct against the other competitor, referee, coach, or public

• Arguing with the referee (all disputes must be taken to the head table)

• Fleeing the mat to avoid submission

 

Points:

• Takedowns - 2 points

• Sweeps - 2 points

• Knee on the stomach - 2 points

• Passing the full guard - 3 points

• Mount - 4 points

• Back Mount with hooks - 4 points
